3 Best Icon Themes for Ubuntu 5 comments

We have been working on Ubuntu eyecandy like themes, wallpapers, GDM packs etc for a while. Now we have for you 3 one of thebest icon-themes for your desktop to make things look fresh and shiny. All the three themes we chose for you are required in most of the customized themes found on Gnome-look or DeviantArt so you have to install them anyway, then why not now ?

1) Faenza Icon theme

Faenza icon theme 0.9.1 is one of the most famous and most loved icon themes so far. It gives you desktop a really cool look and guess what the PPA is also available for Ubuntu 11.04 that means even Natty users can have a new improved Unity desktop with the shiny new Faenza icon set 0.9.1. They can be installed in Ubuntu using this PPA –

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme

and thats it. Now all you need to do is – Click Show-desktop, then Right-Click>Change Desktop Background>Themes>Customize and change the current theme for Faenza and see your desktop transform to an eyecandy. To get it is easy as a pie and makes you desktop look better than ever.

2) Elementary Icon theme

Elementary Icon theme 2.7 is a customized icon theme for Linux desktops. It is by default comes with the Elementary theme pack which is default theme of Jupiter OS and can be instralled in Ubuntu using the following PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementaryart/elementarydesktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-icon-theme

Elementary icon theme is a part of the Elementary desktop project. It gives your desktop a sleek look, so its a must have theme. Those who have Elementary GTK theme installed (refer this), then you already have this installed. All you need to do is run the update manager and upgrade things right away.

3) Awoken Icon theme

Another awesome icon theme aimed at customizing your Ubuntu desktop to the maximum. Awoken icon themes 0.9 can be installed with this PPA easily –

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alecive/antigone
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install awoken-icon-theme

After that, type

awoken-icon-theme-customization

and follow the instructions carefully. Follow the same procedure as said above to use them on your desktop. This will totally change your desktop. A quick tip from our side is – “If you want your desktop look completely perfect, get a Dock replace one of your panels”. We have covered Docks for Ubuntu in this post. You can get them easily with PPAs  and they are really easy to work with. So, thats allfow now. You can start palying with your desktop from now and dont forget to post your desktop screenshots below so that everyone can see your creativity.

Njoy Ubuntu !

Great icon sets for Ubuntu.  I had a problem with the installation of the elementary icon set.  The error was that the generated cache was invalid “WARNING: icon cache generation failed for /usr/share/icons/elementary”.  Hopefully I can figure out how to fix this problem.
    Thanks again!
